“C” is becoming a bar mitzvah in March (burrrrr…..), so I’m extra happy that we were able to take advantage of the beautiful Fall colors during his “Get to Know You” Session. The weather was gorgeous at the beginning of November and there were still plenty of colorful leaves on the trees. My time with C was nice and peaceful, and I look forward to documenting part of his big weekend next year!

Faith is someone I have watched grow up in synagogue for the last nine years, so it’s hard for me to believe that she’ll become a bat mitzvah next summer! I visited her and her furry sister, Peanut (who was much more wild than she appears in these photos), at their new home for her “Get to Know You” Session. I love this girl! Sara will become a Bat Mitzvah in just two months! She is so sweet, open, fun, and silly. I really enjoyed spending time with her during her Get to Know You Session, even though going to the playground resulted in me taking 300 more pictures than I normally do!! Sydney’s Bat Mitzvah will be this Fall, but I got to spend a little time with her a few weeks ago during her “Get to Know You Session.” She’s a sweet, beautiful girl who loves dance and soccer, and she’s calm and patient enough to withstand bugs (including bees) and rain in order to get some good photos! Here are a few from her session!

Levi’s Bar Mitzvah is only a couple of weeks away! What a humbling experience it is to be given the opportunity to spend extra time with my rabbi’s sweet, beautiful family during these special moments in their lives. It was a bit of a challenge to get Levi to flash a genuine smile, but Mom helped out by looking up jokes on her phone. Most of them were pretty cheesy, but we got a few chuckles. Here are a few favorites from our “Get to Know You” Session! I’m looking forward to seeing you shine on the bimah at the end of the month Levi!

Alia! {St. Louis Bat Mitzvah Photographer}

I truly can’t believe that this young lady is about to become a Bat Mitzvah. Her mom is one of the first people I met when we moved back to St. Louis eight years ago, and has become one of my closest friends. I won’t be taking the photos of her Bat Mitzvah rehearsal or the celebration that will happen after the big day, and that’s both horrible and wonderful. It is horrible that I won’t be the one to document the nervous moments, the joyous laughs, the sighs of relief, and the beaming smiles of pride that will be on the faces of those who attend. But it is so wonderful that I will be fully present in every moment, and able to see it all through my unobstructed eyes rather than behind a tiny viewfinder.
Luckily, I was still able to capture a few moments during this important time in Alia’s life. Her mom emailed me today, frantically asking if I happened to have any recent photos to submit for the synagogue bulletin. Since I didn’t have any images worthy of the request, I offered to take a few shots today, edit their favorite one, and email it in time to make it into the bulletin. I would have loved to have spent thirty minutes with Alia, but then it would have taken me three weeks to edit and deliver the images. We literally only spent FOUR minutes outside in my new backyard and I was able to capture what I think are some pretty beautiful shots of this girl!
This first one was actually my test shot, but it captured such an authentic expression that I had to share it!
I figured we should probably get some smiles for the bulletin though.

Jonah’s Bar Mitzvah is coming up in March, so we headed downtown a couple of weeks ago for his Get to Know You Session. His mom warned me that he was a tough one to get a real smile from in pictures, and she was right!! Luckily, I was able to get some pretty cute smiles myself, but the best smiles came when his uncle stood behind me making him laugh. It’s fun to have the whole family come along for a GTKY Session, and it’s even better when there’s a funny uncle there too!

I shot Abby’s sister’s Bat Mitzvah a few years ago, so I hadn’t seen Abby in quite awhile. I was actually nervous to meet her, remembering how sweet she was, and wondering if her pre-teenage years might have changed her. However, shortly after she got out of the car, claiming she looked exactly the same as she did the last time I saw her, but actually looking much more mature, I quickly realized that she was still the sweet happy girl I remembered! In fact, she’s so joyful, I had a hard time getting the “serious” photos I like to capture every once in awhile (but I did get a couple). I know that Abby’s Bat Mitzvah weekend in January will be a great celebration. I’m looking forward to documenting it!!
