My First Baby's Sweet Sixteen Birthday {St. Louis Portrait Photographer}

August 13, 2019 · Birthday Shoots, Kiddos

Sometimes it’s a little crazy for me to think about the stages we all go through as humans and the many experiences we share. For some of us, that includes bringing a baby (or babies) into our lives and then soaking (and sometimes drowning) in the moments between the first few hours of birth and the day our children leave the nest. I’ve been told countless times to appreciate it because everything goes by so fast. So from the very first day that each of my three children were born, I really did all that I could to consciously enjoy as many moments as possible. However, as often as I took the time to cuddle with my babies, to read to them, to take them outside to explore nature, to visit the library with them, to teach them life skills in the grocery store or at the park or with friends, and to create so many other special memories, I still can’t believe that my very first baby is now already sixteen years old. As much as I thought time wasn’t really going by as quickly as everyone said it would, I look back now and feel like it truly is like the “blink of an eye.”

As a photographer who loves photographing newborns, it seems even more surreal that I am so far past the stage of experiencing life as a new mommy. Yet, there are so many moments when I still feel like I don’t know what I’m doing! There were many, many years that I wasn’t sure I’d make it through motherhood with my sanity intact, but as time goes by, I watch proudly as my three children continue to grow and mature. Taliyah, my first daughter, turned sixteen years old at 11:53am (MST) today. With each passing year, I see her becoming more compassionate toward people, animals, and our planet. She is a talented flutist with big dreams and is a smart, beautiful, young woman. I am so excited to celebrate this special birthday with her!! She is the first of my three babies to help me realize how happy I am to have been blessed with the opportunity to learn how to be a better person through being a mother.

Happy sweet sixteen Taliyah!!

Family Portraits in the Prairie! {St. Louis Family Photographer}

October 24, 2018 · Family Bonds, Kiddos

After photographing both of these kiddos a few times when they were babies, seven years went by before I got to see them again, so I was incredibly excited when Mom booked a family portrait session this Fall!! Of course, I always have a great time during sessions, but it’s especially fun when the children are happy, easy-going, and adorable like these two! Thanks to a couple of suggestions from Mom, I fell in love with a location at which I had never been, so that added some new inspiration to the shoot. I went a little wild while picking out my favorite images, so there are more than I normally have time to share, but here they are…

Becoming a Bat Mitzvah {St. Louis Children's Photographer}

August 30, 2018 · Get to Know You Sessions, Kiddos

This sweet, fun, beautiful young woman is becoming a Bat Mitzvah THIS weekend!! I’m excited to see Rylie and her family at her Bat Mitzvah rehearsal tomorrow morning!

I had the honor of photographing her twin siblings’ B’nai Mitzvah four years ago, so it was especially fun to see Rylie again, and to spend time focusing on her. Here are some of my favorite portraits from her “Get to Know You” Session last week.

Claire in the Botanical Garden {St. Louis Bat Mitzvah Photographer}

December 19, 2017 · Get to Know You Sessions, Kiddos

I spent some time with Claire and her family in the beautiful Missouri Botanical Garden just in time to get the last of the color before winter finally took away all of the leaves. Claire’s Bat Mitzvah is in March, and I have no doubt that she will be less than amazing! She is so sweet and kind, but also exudes beauty and confidence. I look forward to seeing her up on the bimah next year!

Ilana Becomes a Bat Mitzvah Next Month! {St. Louis Bat Mitzvah Photographer}

September 25, 2017 · Get to Know You Sessions, Kiddos

In just a few weeks, Ilana will step onto the Bimah at synagogue to lead services and read from the Torah as a Jewish adult. Since I was able to photograph her brother’s Bar Mitzvah two and a half years ago, it’s especially fun to get to see Ilana in the spotlight this time. She is fun, energetic, strong, determined, and adorable! I’m excited to see her shine next month!

Total Solar Eclipse in Leasburg, Missouri 2017 {St. Louis Child Photographer}

August 22, 2017 · Kiddos, Snapshots, Vacations

My family and I, along with some close friends, met in the path of totality, at one of our favorite campgrounds, Ozark Outdoors Riverfront Resort, in Leasburg, Missouri to witness and experience the amazing transformation of our sky during the 2017 solar eclipse. We were lucky to have 2 minutes and 5 seconds of totality surrounded by the beauty of the Meramec River.

One of the most memorable parts of my experience was the changing of the light, from a typical sunny summer day to a dimming warm light that casted detailed shadows like we had never seen. Hearing and feeling the shared excitement of family, friends, and strangers brought a unique feeling of connection and solidarity. Not only did the sky radiate with the colors of a sunset and the bugs start chirping as we had heard would happen, but our children actually decided to change out of their swimming suits and put on dry clothes because they were “done swimming for the day” as the moon continued on it’s journey past the sun. Only after the eclipse was totally over did they realize that it was still early afternoon and, with a hot summer sun once again blazing above their heads, there was still plenty of time to float down the river a couple more times.

Here are some moments I was able to capture…
